target audienceWhile making our opening horror sequence we had to keep in mind the age rating that our film would be. Every film is rated an age, and each age category has different rules that have to be obeyed. We chose the age 15 as even though we would have to obey by more rules, it means that we would have a bigger audience age range so will probably become more popular.
A 15 means no one under 15 is allowed to see that film. This rule is for at the cinema or to buy or rent a film. A 15 rated film is not suitable for children under 15 years of age. At 15 there could potentially be a great deal of strong language. At 15 there is no limit on the number of uses of strong language e.g. "f***" is acceptable. Occasionally there may be uses of the strongest language like "c***" However if continually repeated, it would not be passed as a 15. At 15 there may be racist, homophobic or other discriminatory language. However it must not encourage the audience to use this sort of language or behaviour. At 15, sexual activity can be shown, as long as there is no strong images and detail, which also applies for nudity. There are no limits of nudity in a non-sexual or educational matter. There can be strong references to sex and sexual behaviour. Heterosexual and homosexual sex references are treated the same. At 15 violence may be strong, but it shouldn’t dwell on pain or an injury, however strong gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. Weapons easy to get hold of must not be glamorised. In a 15 taking drugs may be shown, but must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances, like aerosols or solvents, is unlikely to be acceptable at a 15. (AM, KI) |
